Disable right click
14 Jun 2007
Some of the newer themes for Gallery have the ability to disabilty right clicks. Sure, if I see it on my screen, it's in my pc, but lots of folks don't understand that.
I'm wanting to give my event participants a look see at a fairly good size / quality photo before they buy, which gives alot of folks the ability to just print it out themselves.
Is it a large coding task to have the option on right clicks to just come back with "this photo is copyrighted" or some such thing internationally correct
Thanks

Waste of Time
John,
As you have pointed out disabling the right click ability is almost next to useless. Once someone visits the pages on your site with the images they already have a copy cached on there computer.
If you are using a decent web-browser like firefox you can easily stop javascript from modifying or disabling your context menu, or even disable javascript all together.
A better alternative is perhaps consider placing a watermark on your larger images. This will serve two purposes. One, it stop your visitors getting a clean image form your site for printing and Two it acts as a branding exercise so that people know where the images have come from. With Gallery 2.2 you can now apply bulk watermarking.
If you still want to go down the path of disabling right click you would need to add the relevant java-script into the theme.tpl file, or more precisely into a copy of the theme.tpl that you have placed into the local directory.
I currently have no plans to implement this feature into the NDZI theme.
